Compare opportunities beyond the salary
Use the same questions for each opportunity so you can compare what a move would mean for your practice and your life.
Start with your non-negotiables
Choose the requirements that would determine whether you could accept a role: patient population, location, work arrangement, schedule, call, and the support you need. Separate those from preferences you could trade off.
Make the work concrete
- Which patient populations and levels of acuity would you serve?
- How much time is scheduled for initial evaluations, follow-ups, documentation, and coordination?
- What are the expectations for productivity, call, and work outside scheduled hours?
- Who is available for clinical consultation and coverage?
Compare the complete offer
List the compensation structure, expected hours, benefits, paid time off, professional development support, and any costs you would carry yourself. Mark unknown details as questions rather than making assumptions.
Write down the tradeoffs
For each role, record what improves, what becomes harder, and what remains unclear. Confirm important terms in the written offer. Use the comparison to prepare follow-up questions before making a decision.
